Cal Dining
Cal Dining operates four residence hall dining commons, four residential retail locations, three coffee shops, and seven campus restaurants. The foundation of its service is to provide great spaces where students can gather, socialize, study, and make friends.
Residence hall dining commons are usually (and conveniently) located in the center of living environments, with early morning breakfast through late-night dining. Students will find a variety of food, including vegetarian and vegan dishes, organic salad bars, and fun weekly special events.

Enjoy the convenience of four retail locations near the residence halls: The Den (featuring Peet’s Coffee and Tea, smoothies, and deli, located outside of Crossroads); Bear Market (grocery and convenience items, located in Unit 3); Cub Market (grocery and convenience items, located in Foothill); and the CK Cub (grab-and-go kiosk, located at Clark Kerr Campus).

Seven campus restaurants (Common Grounds, Golden Bear Café, Pat Brown’s, the Pro Shop, Qualcomm Café, Ramona’s, and Terrace Café) provide meals and snacks—everything from bagel bars to sushi. Hours vary depending upon location. Check the website for more information including locations and menus (caldining.berkeley.edu; 2610 Channing Way; dining@berkeley.edu; 510/643-8323).

Meal plans
Cal Dining meal plans give students the flexibility to eat whenever they want at any of 15 locations, from the weekly produce stand, or via an online grocery service called Cal Club (caldining.berkeley.edu/calclub.html). There are great meal plan options for both on-campus students and students living off-campus. Check out the website to get more details or sign up for a plan (caldining.berkeley.edu; 2610 Channing Way; dining@berkeley.edu; 510/643-8323).

Vegetarian and vegan options
Vegetarianism, which calls for the exclusion of meat from one’s diet, and veganism, which strives to avoid the use of animals in any way, are two popular lifestyle choices that are wholeheartedly supported at Cal. There are generally a number of vegan and vegetarian options available in the dining commons and campus restaurants, and many Berkeley eateries offer similar choices. Whether you’re a carnivore, herbivore, or someone in between, Cal has something for you.

Privately-operated campus restaurants

Eating disorders
We live in a society that places value on body image and low weight. As a result, millions of Americans, especially women, take drastic measures to be thin. In doing so, they often sacrifice their health and—in some cases—their lives. If you or anyone you know struggles with disordered eating, you can get help at University Health Services (UHS). UHS uses a team approach to help people address the medical and mental health aspects of this condition. UHS also offers a quick online screening tool on its website as well as links to resources and support groups (www.uhs.berkeley.edu/students/medical/eatingdisorders.shtml; Tang Center, 2222 Bancroft Way; 510/642-2000).
