Counseling
Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS)
CPS provides personal, career, and academic counseling through individual and group sessions, workshops, and couples counseling. The multicultural staff includes licensed social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists (uhs.berkeley.edu/students/counseling; Tang Center, 2222 Bancroft Way; 510/642-9494).
All students are welcome to come in and talk about any personal, academic, or career issues, large or small. You may want to discuss the stress of being at Berkeley, a family or relationship problem (including domestic violence), coming out, feelings of anxiety or loneliness, eating problems, alcohol/drug problems, or something else altogether. Counseling can help you feel better—and do better—at Cal. You can make an appointment by calling or visiting CPS on the third floor of the Tang Center. After a brief evaluation, you can meet with a counselor free of charge for up to six sessions.
CPS offers group counseling to help students develop strategies for dealing with anxiety/depression, making the transition to Berkeley, and coping with the stresses of student life. Groups provide the support and comfort that comes from knowing that others may be coping with the same kinds of concerns that you are.
Many students take advantage of CPS’s outstanding (and free) career counseling resources, including testing, counseling, and use of the Career Counseling Library.
