Career Center
The Career Center is the central clearinghouse for part-time, temporary, on/off-campus, internship, or summer job opportunities, as well as for jobs after graduation (career.berkeley.edu; 2111 Bancroft Way; 510/642-1716).

Note: the Career Center is located a half block from the SE corner of campus; when you’ve passed the backside of a carwash, you’re there!

Campus jobs
We’ve listed some of the largest student employers on campus. Many more campus jobs are posted online at career.berkeley.edu.

CalSO selects over 45 students as undergraduate orientation counselors for summer and fall employment. The deadline to apply is in October (New Student Services; calso.berkeley.edu; 2610 Channing Way, third floor; askcalso@berkeley.edu; 510/642-4970).

Cal Dining has many part-time positions available, with new openings weekly. Typical jobs include cashier, checker, dishwasher, and food server; the positions offer flexible hours and free meals. Check for listings with the Cal Dining manager at the residence where you’re interested in working, or at the Career Center (career.berkeley.edu). You can also email your resume to agomez@berkeley.edu.

The Office of Student Development employs more than 600 students in positions such as resident assistants, security monitors, security coordinators, theme program advisers, peer advisers, tutors, marketing assistants, security coordinators, programming assistants, academic services assistants, and student clerks. Check with residence hall staff and unit managers for more information (www.housing.berkeley.edu/student/leadership.html).

Lawrence Hall of Science (LHS) recruits more than 100 students every year to work as assistant teachers for kids’ classes/summer camps, museum exhibit facilitators and demonstrators, store clerks, front-line desk staffers, and assistants behind the scenes. A shuttle runs between campus and LHS. Check for postings at the Career Center (career.berkeley.edu), or on the LHS website (lawrencehallofscience.org).

The Library System employs more than 600 students in a variety of part-time positions. Parking & Transportation (P&T) employs more than 40 students to help coordinate parking needs during special events. Positions vary from kiosk attendant to parking lot assistant, are flexible, and are part-time (pt.berkeley.edu/about_pt/employment_opportunities/

Recreational Sports employs more than 500 Cal students every year as camp counselors, lifeguards, instructors, and adventure specialists (calbears.berkeley.edu).

The UC Police Department recruits up to 80 students for paid positions as non-confrontational Community Service Officers (CSOs). CSOs receive expert training to provide night safety BearWALK Service, and conduct security patrols (police.berkeley.edu; 1 Sproul Hall; 510/642-9109).

Work-Study jobs.
Students who are eligible for financial aid may qualify for work-study jobs. Positions are listed with the Work-Study Office (workstudy.berkeley.edu; 212 Sproul Hall; 510/642-5625).
