Student groups
Muslim Students Association (CalMSA) tries to foster a social community for Muslims at Cal and reach out to those who are not Muslims, primarily to educate them about the misconceptions regarding Islam and the Islamic way of life. The organization sponsors many events, both social and religious. Their website is filled with helpful information, including places to eat and pray (msa.berkeley.edu; board@msa.berkeley.edu).
The Boalt Muslim Students Association (Boalt MSA) is a part of the larger campus MSA and aims to provide for the needs and interests of Muslim students ensconced in Boalt Hall. The Boalt MSA arranges for a prayer room during the day, maintains relationships with the administration to apprise them of Muslim students’ needs, and welcomes admitted Muslim law students. The Boalt MSA works closely with BAML (Bay Area Muslim Lawyers), an informal group of local lawyers and law students that gets together for professional, activist, networking, and social purposes (www.law.berkeley.edu/students/jrnlorgs/orgs/orglist/msa.html; bma@law.berkeley.edu).
