Transfer students

With a couple of years of college already behind them, transfers have less time than other students to become familiar with the campus and surrounding community. To maximize your Berkeley experience, take an assertive stance and look into programs offered through your department or major. Resource will give you some essential tools to survive. Pay careful attention to these sections:

Academic
Academic Achievement Programs (AAP)
AAP’s Student Support Services Scholars Academy (SSS Scholars Academy) provides intensive and tailored academic support for program-eligible, first-generation college, low-income transfer students who are interested in community service, becoming involved in undergraduate research, and/or obtaining a graduate or professional degree. Academic Achievement Programs is located a few blocks south of campus at 2515 Channing Way (aap.berkeley.edu; 510/642-7935).
Students accepted into the SSS Scholars Academy have a variety of courses to choose from:
Education 98/198: Academic Mentoring (1 unit, P/NP)
Education 98/198: Academic Strategies Seminar (1 unit, P/NP)
Education 98/198: Career and Graduate School Exploration (2 units, P/NP)
Education 98/198: Introduction to Research (2 units, P/NP)

Housing
Cal Housing Office reserves Wada Apartments at Unit 2 for upper division, transfer students (510/642-4108).

Support
Re-entry and Transfer Student Association (RTSA) is an ASUC service group directed to serve the needs of transfer and re-entry students (www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~rtsa; rtsa@ocf.berkeley.edu).

Transfer Student Programs and Services, within the Transfer, Re-entry and Student Parent Center (TRSP) help new students make a successful and smooth transition to Berkeley. The transfer program provides a range of services to help transfer students navigate a new campus culture. Services include: transitional courses for credit, academic skill and resource workshops, an outstanding faculty series, community events, resource referral and information, and drop-in and by appointment advising services.

Social Welfare 197: Internship and Mentoring Opportunities

A welcoming community space provides, among other things, study tables, relaxing couches, computer access, and an opportunity to meet other students.
