Religious activities and resources

Religious activities and resources
Although by law the University may not sponsor religious projects, there are plenty of religious activities both on and off campus that serve the campus community. Numerous student organizations represent many faiths (check here); campus ministries offer spiritual, social, and service opportunities; and there are a large number of churches, temples, mosques and other institutions in the community. The Graduate Theological Union (GTU), a multidenominational graduate school of theology, is located to the north of the campus on "Holy Hill."

Campus Life and Leadership works closely with the surrounding community partners, as well as religious student-based organizations.  Students who are looking for religious resources or community groups can contact Campus Life and Leadership (102 Sproul Hall; 510/642-5171).

Religious holidays and exam conflicts
Faculty are encouraged to take religious holidays into account when planning exams and assignment due dates. If you are aware of a potential conflict, discuss it with your professor as soon as possible.

Beware
Some cults use religion as a hook to pull in unsuspecting people. Be sure to read the Cult awareness section. Check with Campus Life and Leadership if you are unsure about a religious group.
